A total of 1000 pigs of 3, 6, 9 and 12 weeks of age from 21 Italian farms were included in this study. Animals were blood sampled twice with a 3-week interval, the samples were submitted to an haemagglutination inhibition (HI) test in order to assess the prevalence of antibodies against H1N1, H1N2 and H3N2 swine influenza virus subtypes and obtain their decay curve. A sample was considered positive when its HI titer was >=1:40. Both the H1N1 and H3N2 subtypes had a linear decay curve with an expected decline under 1:40 at 15 weeks and 23 weeks respectively. The serological prevalence of the H1N2 subtype was more difficult to evaluate due to the low number of positive animals.
