Brucellosis
See chapter 12 for further information.(357) This disease is caused by the bacterium Brucella suis. Infection of the pregnant sow may result in abortion. Generally it has no affect on sucking pigs that are born viable and healthy at full term except that some may develop infection of the spinal column (spondylitis) leading to posterior paralysis.
