Cyanosis
(457) Cyanosis (Fig.10-7) is the name used to describe a blue or red discoloration of the skin which may or may not be localised to small areas, mainly the extremities. It is not a specific skin condition but a symptom of generalised disease.CYANOSIS
There is a clear line of demarcation on the left ear from the normal skin. This picture is typical of PRRS or blue ear disease or toxaemias.
The colour changes are associated either with poor circulation due to heart disease, toxic conditions, thrombosis of blood vessels or poisoning, particularly by carbon monoxide.
