Pustular Dermatitis

(478) This disease is seen in young growing pigs and occasionally in adults. The skin becomes infected with staphylococci or streptococci bacteria and small circular raised red areas appear. These are similar to acne in the human. In some cases the condition can affect large areas of skin. It is usually confined to individual animals and recovery takes place over two to three weeks. Antibiotic injections will help and lincomycin, amoxycillin or tetracyclines could be used. It can be confused with mange, localised greasy pig disease and pig pox.
