打印本页 Cause Of Pig Disease Still Unknown
NEW ZEALAND - Animal health researchers at Massey University are hoping to unravel the mystery of what causes the pig disease, PMWS, which has struck pig herds in the North and South Island.PMWS or post-weaning multi-systemic wasting syndrome, which can kill young pigs, is spreading through herds in the Christchurch area and has also been recently confirmed on another farm in the north Waikato region.
The disease is highly contagious among pigs but is very difficult to detect. There is no diagnostic test because scientists have not yet been able to identify the virus that causes it.
However, Massey University's professor of animal health, Roger Morris, says the university's epicentre is following some promising lines of research.
He says finding the virus that causes the disease will make it easier to control.
